This week’s wedding is Allison and Shane. They came to me via a suggestion from one of my former photography students. We set up a time to chat and found out that we had a lot of mutual friends. As an Atlanta wedding photographer at AtlantaArtisticWeddings I am always surprised how small the world is. Allison and Shane work at the Animal Hospital and I photographed the wedding of one of the doctors they work years ago. I also know the wedding coordinator at the church Smoke Rise Baptist Church!

They were lucky enough to find each other and put on no airs. They put on no airs, drank some beer and played video games they both love and hunkered down together. The more time they spent together the more they felt they were meant for each other and finally one of them said I love you. Which is a big word to throw out there and show what is in your heart. When I arrived I started with the guys while Tara worked with the girls. The guys got ready first so we did their shots on the Terrace. They were a fun bunch of guys! After their photography was done they went back to their room. They guys made toasts to the groom and the groom asked some of the guys to be the godfather to his child that are expecting this month. It was a truly touching moment that made me a little weepy. Just a lot of good vibes all around the room.

As an Atlanta wedding photographer I love to do engagement sessions. It is my way to get to know the couple. We chat and get to know each other. I learn about their brothers and sisters, Where they were born, time they spent traveling and working in New York City. These life experiences shape who they are. I also get to know how comfortable they are in front of the camera. I saw how David loves the outdoors and neither one is afraid to get a little dirty. They would laugh and just step into the creek to get the shot. They easily climbed in the tall grass to get a great photo.

I have talked to many Atlanta wedding photographers. They all like getting to know their bride and grooms before the wedding. The best way to do that is with an engagement session. During an engagement session you have time to talk. You can ask questions and get a feel for what the couple is comfortable with, like are they comfortable in crowds and showing affection in public.
