Keven and Maria are this week’s couple. Keven contacted me one week before the wedding. He explained that it was going to be a small ceremony of a few family and friends while everyone was in town for the holidays.
The wedding was held at the Cherokee Town and Country Club, a historic mansion located off of Paces Ferry Road between Midtown and Buckhead. The Town Club occupies the famed Grant Estate and was chartered in 1956. It is recognized as one of America’s premier private clubs. The Grant Estate is one of the 8 original historic properties on Paces Ferry. It is part of Atlanta’s most beautiful historic districts which includes such properties as the Swan House, Tullie Smith House, and Stuart With House.
When I arrived I met with Keven and his sons upstairs in the club. They were getting ready in the room next to the bride who was getting ready with Keven’s daughter. While taking some photos with the guys I got to see how much of a doting father Keven is. Keven and his boys wore matching dark grey suits with tasteful black ties. Perfect attire for a lovely wedding at Cherokee Country Club.
While getting ready we made some small talk and I learned that when Keven was younger he used to bartend at the Cherokee Town Club for private events. It was a sort of homecoming for him to have the wedding there. I suggested that we bring the boys to where he used to work and take a few photos at the bar. The bartenders were gracious enough to let me get behind the bar and take this photo of Keven and his boys. As you can tell Keven really enjoyed this moment with his boys.
To save time Maria and Keven did a first look before the ceremony. Then, we took some photos around the club and grounds while it was still daylight. After the photos the guests started to arrive and were served champagne. It was a very intimate wedding full of love and support from everyone there. Keven’s sons served as his best man. They did an awesome job and were so happy for their Dad and new mom. The ceremony was very sweet, and felt sort of like a family homecoming.
After the ceremony there were hors d'oeuvres and cocktails for everyone. After a while the guests migrated upstairs to the dining room, where everyone found their table and the couple did their first dance as husband and wife. The room cheered as they finished their dance. Before they served dinner a friend of Keven’s proposed a toast to the couple and also shared a brief history of the area to the bride’s family since they were from out of town. After his toast the bride’s uncle gave a toast in Russian and the bride, Maria interpreted it for everyone. Then the bride and groom thanked everyone for being part of their special day.
The dinner was a seven course meal so there was plenty of time for more toasts and surprises from the guests. In the background while they were eating there was a guitarist playing music. He was the catalyst of one of the coolest impromptu moments of the day. I saw where Keven’s youngest son went up to the guitarist and requested a song. What I did not know was that he was going to sing it! He did an awesome job! When he was done, his brother chimed in on the next song. Followed by their sister, who came up and did a Beatles song! After the daughter’s song the whole family did a song with Keven. What a talented family! It was one of the highlights of the evening!
After supper and the cake cutting, Keven had saved a couple of cigars to share with his friends. They went outside on the veranda to smoke them. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day where the groom could reflect on his new beginning with his friends.
