This week’s couple is Kristin and Daniel. I met them through my church. They approached me after service one Sunday and said that they were looking for a photographer for their wedding at Little Gardens. I was excited to say yes Little Gardens is less than a mile from my house!
Little Gardens is a hidden gem in the Lawrenceville area. It is a colonial-style venue nestled in the midst of a 7-acre estate. It has an outdoor ceremony area with a picturesque waterfall and koi fish pond. There is also a large bridal suite with overstuffed sofas and a floor-to-ceiling mirror to die for as well as a large ballroom and wrap-around bar in the reception area.
It was a weekday wedding so I left work and went straight there. The bride and bridesmaids happened to arrive at the same time that I did. As they went into the bridal room I brought out the wedding dress for a few detail shots. Also while the girls were getting ready the groom arrived with his groomsmen. We kept the groups separated until the ceremony.
It was a small wedding with just a few friends and family. There were also just a couple of bridesmaids and groomsmen. One of the groomsmen was the groom's brother. The ceremony was performed by Russ Weekley, our minister at Good Shepherd Church where we all attend.
During the reception there was the first dance, which was a very sweet moment between the bride and groom. For music there was a mixture of Spanish and Scandinavian cultures of genres to reflect the mixture of cultures present, one thing the whole group loved was when the DJ played YMCA from the Village People. It seems that song always gets everyone on the dance floor!
There was one other unique thing that I have never seen before at a wedding, a Scandinavian ring wedding cake called a “Kransekake”. It is made with almond paste and looks like a pyramid of donuts with white icing. The couple break off one of the rings and feed it to one another just like a wedding cake.
At the end of the night everyone hugged and celebrated two families coming together. The guests gathered in front of Little Gardens and were handed sparklers. We gave the bride and groom a countdown and they ran through the crowd for their exit. It was a beautiful ending to a beautiful wedding.
