This week’s couple is Roger and Peggy, two people who met each other later in life and fell in love. When you see this couple, you see two people that appreciate life. They also know that life is short, and that you have to make the most of it while you can.
Peggy contacted me a while back and told me she wanted to have a small simple ceremony with just family and a couple of friends. She and Roger have both been married before and didn't want the hoopla of a big wedding. I told her that sounded great! She explained that everything is happening at Naylor Hall on a Thursday night in December and she wanted just a couple of photos with the family.
I arrived early at Naylor Hall and I noticed a black classic Corvette in the front of the venue. Peggy’s two sons were decorating it with a “Just Married” sign on the rear of the car. I took a few photos of the racing ride and after after a few minutes, Roger came out and we introduced ourselves. He explained that the Corvette had always been on his bucket list. After his wife passed away he splurged on the car right before coming to Atlanta, where he joined the Corvette Club here in town. Roger made a lot of friends in the Corvette club and gets together with them when he can. He also said that Peggy likes to drive the Vette too but she can be a little heavy footed on the accelerator!
After finishing outside, I then went inside to take some detail photos and check in with the bride. Naylor Hall did a great job setting up the perfect space for Peggy and Roger. There were a few tables set out for the families with plenty of space between them for social distancing. There was a runner in the middle of the room for the bridal party’s entrance and a unity candle at the end of the runner for the ceremony. The whole setup was very simple and tasteful just like the couple.
When the ceremony began, Peggy’s two son’s escorted her down the aisle and her granddaughter and a grandson shared some reflective passages from the bible. The ceremony was performed by one of my favorite pastors, Monsignor Henry Gracz from The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the oldest Catholic church in Atlanta. The two sons lit the unity candles on the sides then Peggy and Roger lit the unifying candle in the middle. The couple exchanged rings and the pastor pronounced them husband and wife. They were not shy about sealing the marriage with a kiss either! It was great seeing two people who after all these years believe in the power of love! For their honeymoon the couple is going to Disney World. Peggy has never been and it is on her bucket list!
This wedding was the last wedding of 2021 and it made me a little reflective and thankful. As an Atlanta wedding photographer you get to cross paths with a lot of wonderful people. It was great to see Monsignor Gracz and know that there are so many caring people doing God’s work. It was also great to see the staff at Naylor Hall who have become friends and are just so gracious to everyone. Finally I am grateful to my wedding team at Atlanta Artistic Weddings who bring joy to others. From Heather who edits my blogs and makes me seem like I can talk pretty. To Lizzie who edits the photos and gets the anticipated photos to the clients so quickly. To Sarah and Tara who share their photography skills and make me a better photographer. But most of all I am thankful for my family for putting up with me and my long work hours away from the people I love.
