Historic Wedding Location in Atlanta the Marianna aka Victor H. Kriegshaber House

by David Diener

Courtesy of www.themarianna.com
Spring is in the air and so are weddings.  As you know I like to sing the praises of people that I like.  I am also a big fan of historic architecture.  Recently Ema from the Marianna asked me to come by and check out the wedding facility the Marianna.  It is a wonderful venue!!! You can see the website at: http://www.themarianna.com/

I have always loved this place since I first saw it.  I checked out a long time ago during the renovation period. I can tell the current owners have a deep appreciation of the historic architecture they have.   If you do any research on the venue you can search by the historic name Victor H. Kriegshaber House.  It is on the National Registrar of Historic Places and listed on several websites.  It has been a land mark in Atlanta since the early 1900's.
Come on by and say hello to Ema.  Take a tour of the facility and you will be happy you did.

Thank you so much for visiting! Please feel free to call me at

Add a little Class to Your Wedding

by David Diener

When I come across a vendor that I like I like to share it with my clients.  If you alive music to the wedding you can add the element of class to your wedding.  Especially if you use these classy musicians.  There is something special about adding a string trio to your wedding. One more bonus to having a live musician at your wedding that they can easily be available to adjust to your programs timing.  That is a good thing since we all know that sometimes a wedding can run a little behind schedule.

There is something to be said  about live music and how much it adds to your wedding.

This wedding party was just awesome! They were fun and a ball to work with!  The two familys were great as well.  Just such a special group! The wedding was in Marrietta, Georgia at the Whitlock Inn.  It is a wonderful Historic home in Marrietta.  It has a wonderful front yard and a wrap around porch.  The back yard is spacous and has vine gazebo that is fun to take pictures at.   The inside has all  the charm of a classic southern historic mansion.  I just love shooting at historic homes!!
The couple got a historic Bently also! The car was just plane fun.  The chauffeur was great to work with. He was very attentive to the couple and moved the car around to get the best shots.  He was a blast.

Emory Continuing Education Class on Location at photo shoot
Emory Continuing Education Class on Location at photo shoot

I want to share with you what we have been doing lately.  I have the honor of being a photography instructor at Emory’s continuing education program.  Let me tell you I have a great class of talented photographers.  They are getting toward the end of the of the program and are really shining!  They are some of the most inspiring individuals that I ever had the honor of working with.  We gone through several classes and concentrated on different aspects of photography.
This month I took the class to a photography studio in downtown Atlanta.  We had access to several backdrops and different sources of lighting.  I was amazed at how each photographer brought their own voice to the shoot.  Our model was Kristi .   I can’t say enough nice things about her! She brought her “A” game and was just down right fun!
Here are links to the photographers at the shoot.  Please take the time to view some beautiful photography.

A Photography Website with Shortcuts and Inspiration

by David Diener

Hello everyone! As a Atlanta wedding photographer I am always looking for inspiration.  I have made a website with some links to the information that I refer to most.  It is at http://atlantaartisticweddings.com/class/links.html.  There I have links to photoshop shortcuts, lightroom shortcuts and links to photographers that inspire me.  I have also embedded videos of  George Hurrell one of the greatest photographers.  He was the photographer to Hollywood for years and was the master of the black and white stills that promoted the stars of the time.  I have also embedded a video of Richard Avadon another photographer that inspired me.  His documentary "Dark and Light" is a classic that we can all learn from.  Both photographers shoot in black and white and are minimalist photographers in the since they capture the subject and there is no filler.  We could all learn from them.
I hope that you enjoy the site and come back often.  I plan on updating it often with new links and inspiration!

Trash The Dress! by Atlanta Wedding Photographer

by David Diener

Hello everyone!  There has been a growing trend among the younger brides for "trash the dress" photo shots.  This involves after the wedding you go out and pick a location to trash your wedding dress.  I just got an opportunity to do one.

I think they are great ideas.  They give the bride a chance to wear the wedding dress again and have a photo shot where they are not rushed by the wedding day.  They get to have fun and not be so worried about being so prime and proper.  This way the are just a girl having fun!

This bride was so wonderful.   We decided to do some fun photos before we went and trashed the dress in the lake.  She wore some sassy cowboy boots.  We did a few shots on some railroad tracks, a covered bridge and some by the lake.  We then moved on to the lake location.

We had a blast!! She was full of energy and gave some wonderful playful poses.  As you can see from the photo the main objective was to have fun!  Which is what all photo shots should be.  I want to thank the bride for giving me the chance to photograph such a unique opportunity.

Why Wedding Photographer's Love Natural Light

by David Diener

It is no secret that Atlanta wedding photographers prefer natural light. The color is balanced and there is just something about the light dressing the bride in sunlight.  In this photo by David Diener you can see the bride just soaking in the natural light.  I started out as an fine artist and illustrator.  One of my favorite artists is Vermeer.  His mastery of light is unparalleled and that is why he is considered the master of light.  I am know I am no Vermeer but I will often use his techniques in photography.  He is often seen using a light from a window like this one and making some very dramatic light and bringing power to his paintings.
Girl with a Pearl Earing is a great example of natural dramatic light

I also like using natural light because it like Vermeer it is a classic.  It is something that has been used for years and will be here for a long time.

Wedding at the High Museum of Art

by David Diener

There is nothing like a wedding at the High Museum of Art.  The staff are great!  The art at the high makes for a perfect back drop for a classy or a fun whimsical wedding. There is art for both.  For this wedding the bride was very elegant but she did have a little of that Rock and Roll there too.  The bridal party was just so fun!  They were up for anything and had a great attitude towards everything. There were not about to let a little rain spoil their day.  As you can see from the photo these ladies were there to have fun and support their girl!  You can see highlights of their wedding at:

I want to first say thank you to the bride and groom for giving such a  me such great honor of documenting their special day. I also want to give a heart felt thank you to the staff of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta for their help and support.  They made a day to remember for the couple and guests.

Great Wedding at Druid Hills Country Club

by David Diener

As an Atlanta wedding photographer I recently had the honor of shooting at the Druid Hills County Club.  It is a fixture in Atlanta.  It is a classic venue right across the street from the Fernbank Museum.  Established in 1912, Druid Hills has long offered the full array of services. The staff were great!  They made the bride feel comfortable and at home.  They have a spacious banquet room and wonderful golf course.   There are just so many places to take photographs!!   My favorite place was the huge staircase.  It just framed the bride and facility perfectly!  Oh and don't let me forget the mirrors in the brides room.  They made all brides maids look like movie stars.  I can't say enough nice things about the facility.  It was an honor to be part of such a professional and fun team.

Video of Great Atlanta Wedding with a Country Chic feel

by David Diener

I had the previllage to shoot another wedding at the Braselton Stover House.  It is a wonderful venue that has such wonderful down home feel.  It is an historic house in downtown Braselton, Georgia.  It has a very southern feel.  This week they had a great bride!  She had a tasteful dress and the decorations.  The dress had a red bow and beautiful details.

The bride and groom wanted a first look since it was daylight savings time.  I love doing this is is like being invited to capture in a very intimate moment between them.  The expression he had when he first saw her was priceless.  They were so sweet to each other!  It made me so happy to see them together.

Wedding Photography and the daylights savings time

by David Diener

Hello everyone I know it has been a while since I have posted.  I have been very blessed with many photography projects this year.

Today I wanted to touch on wedding photography at night.  As you may be aware we have turned out clocks forward.  I have enjoyed the extra hours sleep that it gave me at first.  I have been less happy of taking away an hour of day light at the end of the day.  I am a wedding photographer and that means that I live by light.   I recently had the honor of photographing a wedding outside of Atlanta ar 6pm.  The facility I shot at had a Gazebo with a wonderful chandeler in it.  I was very worried that I would not have enough light at night to do the photography that I wanted. I had a wedding the day before and I was rushed to get all the photography done before sunset.  The Gazebo at this location was a savior.  It gave me the light I needed and right after sunset the blue dusk sky was dramatic.  I have shared this photo with you.

Thank you to visiting.  Please feel free to call me at 404-578-6982 and I will be happy to help you in any way that I can.

Great Wedding at the Inman Park United Methodist Historic Church in Atlanta

by David Diener

This week I had the honor of shooting a great wedding at the Inman Park United Methodist Historic Church in Atlanta.  It is a beautiful church that is rich in history.  The church is located in Inman Park, Atlanta's first "garden suburb" .  The church was dedicated on April 17, 1898.  It is constructed of granite from Stone Mountain.  It's interior is a classic!  They have kept all the great historic details of the church in tact.  The wedding guild were so gracious to the wedding party.  They gave the bride a day to cherish for ever.  You can see highlights of the wedding at http://atlantaartisticweddings.com/atlanta%20wedding%20photographer/October%205%202013.html

The photo to the left was taken at the large doors that lead in to the scancturay.  Just look at the details on the hinges! It just makes the bride look even more grand!

The Knife Dance at Persian Weddings

by David Diener

I have had the honor of shooting a couple of Persian weddings this year.  Let me tell you they are a blast!!! It is refreshing to see new and wonderful customs at weddings.  As you know I always say to each bride and groom is to make it your wedding!  If you have not seen the knife dance it is a real treat.  The brides maids and other women start to dance a typical Persian dance with the cake knife and basically asking the couple money for the cake knife.  Once the dancer gets the money, the knife is passed on to the next person and they dance for the couple.  The bride and groom continue to offer money to try and get the cake knife.  After a few dancers the couple is finally given the knife and they are able to cut the cake with the knife.  It is great fun and enjoyed by all!

It is so cool to see all the different cultures and traditions.  As a Atlanta wedding photographer I am honored witness all the diverse weddings and photograph their special occasions.

Don't let the Atlanta rain put a damper on your wedding!

by David Diener

Well it has been a record number of days of rain in the Atlanta area. I think I heard that in July we had as much rain as we did all of last year. I don't have to tell you if you live in Atlanta we have had a lot of rain!! Just check out the NOAA Rain fall score card.

I know that sometimes you can be very discouraged about things that are out of your control on your wedding day such as rain.  Let me tell you that don't let a little rain put a damper on your wedding day.  The thing about booking at a good venue you are hiring people that are experienced in dealing with rain and other things.  I am the photographer that is going to make lemonade out of lemons!  I am going to go to the 10th degree to help the bridal party and put people at ease.  Remember in some cultures rain is a sign of good luck!

I also see it as an creative opportunity for my photography.  Recently was at a wedding that the rain came and thought what could I do to get the most creative wedding photos.  In the photo I have included in the post was that I said lets use the flash umbrella as a prop and let the rain work for us.  In this photo I was looking for good sources of light.  I picked this area centered the couple in the light then got my assistant to go behind the couple and use my remote flash to back light the couple under the umbrella.  This is  one of my favorite photos with the reflective light and flash.  But the most important thing is that the couple is having fun and did not let the rain stop them from having the best day of their lives!
