This week’s photo session is an Atlanta wedding photography classic. The couple’s wedding is in October and they wanted their engagement photos to have that Atlanta flavor by shooting at city landmarks that give that urban feel. Liz and Ben are international travelers and appreciate the energy a city can bring.
We started early at Piedmont Park at sunrise. They brought their dog Archie, who was an energetic fun soul. He brought so much personality and playfulness to the shoot.
The weather and lighting were perfect. When we got there the street lights of the park were still on. We could take advantage of the dramatic lighting a lamp can bring to a couple. It gave a very intimate and moody light. While it was still dawn and we had that low early light we moved over to the Greystone, where they have this grand arched entrance with large stone columns. There it was dark enough to use a flash to backlight the couple.
From there we moved on to capture the Atlanta Skyline. In front of Greystone is the Active Oval Running Loop with a soccer field in the middle. The entrance to the field is the original historic wall with the stone planters from when that area used to be the agricultural pavilion when the park was first built. The wall lines up perfectly along Piedmont Road and Peachtree street. That way you see the major buildings in midtown. There our couple climbed the wall and played. We even got Archie to get into the act. Archie would pose for the camera and supervise the couple in love.
To take advantage of the park we continued on to Lake Clara Meer, the center of the park. There we went to the front of the Dockside Visitor Center where they have a beautiful row of corinthian columns. It is a nice little area with great light. We then wrapped around the building to the dock leading to Lake Clara Meer where the sun was coming up above the treeline.
Liz also wanted to use some of the murals in Atlanta made by local artists. There are several of them by Krog street which is known for their graffiti filled tunnel. Liz and Ben went to Liz’s favorite mural of butterflies. There we took a few photos detailing Liz’s ring made from family heirloom stones. It is a beautiful ring with family history and deep meaning to the couple. We went into the tunnel and admired the latest artwork painted on the walls. We could still smell the fresh paint in the air.
Liz noticed a large mural on the way to the Krog Street Tunnel. As we got closer to the mural we noticed that in the center was a heart. It was the perfect location to end the day. What a great adventure in the city where we captured the adventurous spirit of Liz, Ben and Archie.
