As most of you already know, this month is LGBTQ+ Pride month! Our Atlanta wedding photographers have had the honor of working with many same-sex couples to capture their big days and I thought this week would be a good time to look back on those experiences and also what Pride is about for those who may not know.

First, Pride Month, is a month dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride. People typically celebrate in June because the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, occurred in June and marches demonstrating LGBTQ pride occurred shortly after the riots. The holiday was first officially federally recognized in 1991.

With wider recognition of the LGBTQ community came the legalization of same-sex marriage nationwide in the U.S. in 2015. Since then, we’ve definitely seen couples exercising this right and it’s been truly heart-warming to witness. We’ve even shot a beautiful wedding for a loving couple who finally got married after over 30 years together! It was an incredibly special event.
And to top it all off we’ll end in a fun fact: Every year Atlanta holds the biggest Pride parade in the Southeast. Let us know how you’ll celebrate this month!
