My name is David Diener and I am the owner of Atlanta Artistic Weddings. In July I will be teaching Photography at Emory Continuing Education. The name of the Course is “Digital Photography - Taking Better Photographs”.

In the class I will be sharing my expertise gained from years as a Wedding Photographer and HABS HAER Large Format Photographer for the Library of Congress. I will be starting with the basics of the camera and settings, then students will apply their skills to produce the images that utilize the best techniques to tell great stories. This class is ideal for enthusiastic hobbyists as well as amateurs. The course combines a combination of class lectures, demonstrations and photographic assignments to convey the importance of compositions, selective focus, saturated colors and most importantly proper exposure. We will also explore the complex aspects of photography such as lighting, color, depth of field and more. Students are encouraged to share work for the enhancement of class discussion.

In the first lesson we will have camera orientation. We will cover the basics of the digital camera and lenses. I want students to start with a basic understanding of the camera they are using and how to adjust the settings on the camera.

In the next class we will cover how to take more than one photo of a subject and pick the best one. We will explore the many options you have when you take a photo and the best choice for exposure and composition.

I will also go into lenses and the best lens for each situation. We will cover wide angle vs. telephotos and the best lens for portraits. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice your skills.

In the final lesson we will go over organization of files and editing techniques, along with the best uses of flash photography and the flash equipment.
