Most people hate having their picture taken because they aren’t sure what to do in front of the camera. However there are many ways to combat this so you can have a successful engagement shoot. One of the tips our Atlanta wedding photographers always tell our couples is to dress right for your photo shoot. How do you do that? Well, there are a few ways to accomplish this.

First, pick an outfit with a color scheme that flatters your natural skin tone and coloring. Take time to consider if you look best in neutral tones, warm colors, cool colors, etc. Also consider what colors will look best in the lighting of your shoot location. Solid colors also tend to look better on camera than patterns so keep that in mind as well. The simpler the better and this all goes for makeup as well.

Second, dress for your environment. Of course this means the weather. You obviously shouldn’t wear a sweater to a photo shoot in July. However also think about the setting you’ll be shooting in. If you’re doing your photo shoot at a park or by a lake then you may wanna wear something a little more casual like jeans and a nice shirt or a sundress. However, if you’re doing your shoot at a formal space then you can wear a formal dress or a dress shirt and slacks.

Last but not least, make sure you are dressing for comfort. Naturally you are going to want to wear an outfit that you can move easily in that isn’t stiff. Try your ensemble on beforehand to make sure it’s the right size. Also consider you’re personal comfort. For example, if you don’t like v-necks or spaghetti straps, don’t wear them to the shoot. Also make sure you have multiple outfits handy to change into so that if you’re not sure about one you have a back up.
