This week’s wedding is Phahola and Patrick. They got married at Little Gardens in Lawrenceville, Georgia just outside of Atlanta.
Little Gardens is a historic wedding venue built in the mid 1800’s on a hill along Lawrenceville Highway. It has many great features, such as the rolling lawn out front, flagstone walkways, and a Koi pond in the back, which is a symbol of good luck in Japanese culture. Inside the main building, which is a traditional Georgian mansion, is a gorgeous ballroom with square columns and tall windows for an airy, classic feel. The hardwood flooring adds warmth and sophistication to the space.
The wedding day started on Thursday around 4pm. The couple and the bridal party all started to arrive. I kept the bride and groom separated since they wanted to see each other for the first time as they walked down the aisle. I photographed the groom first and when I was finished with his photos the bride got ready to do her shoot. Since it was a late afternoon wedding we did a lot of her photos inside. She wore her mother’s wedding dress and it looked beautiful on her! In the bridal room there is an 8-foot by 7-foot mirror that it is perfect for bridal photos! We did a few photos in the mirror where you can see the front and back of the dress at the same time, then we went to the balcony for a few backlit photos. Once we were done with those it was time for the wedding!
Russ Weekley, my minister at Good Shepherd Church performed the ceremony perfectly with a mix of solemness and joy. Pahola looked beautiful as she walked down the aisle and Patrick was smiling ear to ear when he saw her. As part of their ceremony they poured different colored sand into a framed box symbolizing the mixing of two lives into one. Then they exchanged rings and Russ announced them husband and wife!
After the ceremony we did a few more photos and then it was time for the reception. The reception was like the couple, a mixing of two different cultures. The bride’s family was from Puerto Rico and the groom’s family was from Georgia. It was a lot of fun to see the mixing of styles of music during the dances. After the reception and dinner it was time for the exit. They had a bubble send off with the guests in front of the house and left in a Ford Mustang.
It was such an honor to be a small part of such a wonderful day. The couple could not have been more kind or gracious.
