This week's post is a surprise proposal. Vinil proposed to Akshata his long-time friend turned girlfriend at the Gwinnett Airport.
Vinil contacted me through instagram and wanted me to photograph him proposing to his girlfriend on Saturday. I told him I would be honored! We set up a time for a phone call and set up the logistics for photographing the proposal.
Vinil had booked an introduction flight at a flight school at the Gwinnett Airport. They have several small planes such as Cessnas and other single engine aircraft by their school. The planes are made for small runways and beginner pilots. The planes have 2 front seats for the pilots and a small bench in the back of the cockpit.
I arrived at the school about a half an hour early so I could look for hiding places and scope out the area. I introduced myself to the manager of the flight school and he said that Vinil had booked the flight and he had called the school earlier to say he was running about 20 minutes late. While I was at the counter talking to the manger his cousin came in with the decorations for the front of the plane. She had a red carpet, electric candles and lit up letters that spelled “will you marry me”. It was really nice of her to come early and be part of such a special day.
The manager took us to the plane they were going to fly. His cousin started decorating and laying out the letters. I hid behind the wing of a large charter plane. I had a clear view of the plane they were going to fly but hidden from the entrance to the tarmac. While waiting I saw the maintenance crew tightening down the planes because the wind was picking up. The time was getting closer and the sun was starting to go down along with the temperature.
As soon as they were through decorating and the maintenance crew left Vnil and Akshata arrived. I pretended to be working on the plane when they came onto the tarmac. They approached the plane and Akshata started to figure out what was going on. She was stunned and surprised by what was going on. Vinyl quickly sprung into action and got down on one knee and broke out the ring. I came out from behind the wing of the airplane and Akshata still did not notice me. She was overcome with emotion and hugged her best friend for life.
It was a special moment between two people and the introduction to their married life together. I was honored to document such a special day. Congrats to Akshat and Vinil! I see many years of happiness in your future.
