One thing that every couple has to think about during their wedding is the wedding registry. The registry is an opportunity for couples to reflect on what they really need from their loved ones in order to start their married life off on the right foot. Most couples ask for the essential house and kitchen items that we all need. However, what do you do if you already have those things, or need something different more? Here are some ideas of non-traditional ways to handle your registry!
Honeymoon/Newlywed Fund

One smart idea is to ask for money instead of gifts. You and your partner are making a big life change and you can never have enough money at this time of life. The funds can be used for anything you need, from Honeymoon purchases to a down payment on a house. You never know when that cushion is going to come in handy!
Favorite Books/Movies

This one was an idea I got from a friend, and it was such a smash at her wedding! This couple asked that, instead of gifts, each guest bring a copy of their favorite book so they could start their library in their new home. This can be a cool idea not just because reading is a hobby that you and your partner can do together, but it also brings you closer to your guests and helps you bond with them over their interests. It would also be fun to do the same with every guests movie.
Activities To Do Together

If you and your partner are the adventurous type, you can ask that your gifts all be activities that you and your spouse can do together. This could mean that your guests bring board games or cards that the two of you can play together. Folks can take it one step further as well and bring gifts such as hiking gear for you to hike together, or kitchen condiments and ingredients so you can cook your favorite meal together. Doing activities together, especially as newlyweds, can help you grow and bond as a couple!
Advice

Last but not least, ask your loved ones for pieces of advice. This could be advice on a variety of topics, from how to work together to how to budget to save for a house together, anything a young couple might need. You can set up a box for guests to leave their advice written on note cards that you read on your honeymoon or first anniversary, or you can invite guests up during the reception and have them read their advice during the speeches/toasts. This will help your loved ones feel like they’re a part of your new chapter and the advice can help you when you least expect it in ways you didn’t know you needed.
