This week’s wedding will go down in Atlanta Artistic Weddings history as one of the best weddings ever! The couple choose two of the most Iconic wedding venues in Atlanta. They held their ceremony at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which is one of the oldest catholic churches in the southeast, and their reception took place at the Fabulous Fox Theater!
First, I want to give you a little background on this awesome couple. To know them is to know they love to dance! They are talented competitive ballroom dancers who have even gone to professional dance competitions. A lot of their friends are also competitive dancers. When we met, they explained how important dancing was to them. When you see them dance, their passion for the art form comes alive. You can also see the strong connection they have, since they are so in tune with each other while they dance.
The wedding day started at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, located near the Georgia state capital. The church’s construction was completed in 1873, making it one of the oldest churches in downtown Atlanta. Designed by local architect William H. Parkins, the cornerstone was laid on September 1, 1869 by poet Abram Joseph Ryan.
The church is beautiful from the inside out. As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I love these historic churches, with their tall ceilings and beautiful details throughout. The church has large stained glass windows and organ pipes that make a beautiful backdrop to the music.
The bride wore a beautiful ball gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a long train. The train was accented with a gorgeous sheer cathedral cape vail that was incorporated into her dress. This detail was new to me, but I thought it was a beautiful accent and was very functional, compared to a veil that’s pinned to your hair. She was escorted to the alter by her very proud mother and father. The church’s minister preformed a very classy and tasteful ceremony, accompanied by music played on the church’s organ.
After the ceremony we went to the Fox Theater. As a wedding photographer, this is one of my favorite places in the world to shoot! It is not only a stunning theater, it is also where I proposed to my wife 31 years ago, so it has a special place in my heart. Since the theater has been closed due to the pandemic, the stage was empty and available as a photo location, which was amazing luck. How many people can say they danced on the stage of the Fox Theater?!?
When we finished the photo session, we went to the Egyptian Ballroom on the second floor for the reception. For this wedding, the room was customized with a full ballroom dance floor. The couple did a dazzling first dance that covered the whole floor. The dance included spins to showcase how the bride’s dress flowed with every move. They looked like they were dancing on air. After their dance, the floor was opened up to the guests and it was like something out of a movie! The whole dance floor was suddenly filled with guests doing a choreographed dance. Everyone spinning at the same time and it looked magical!
After the dancing, there were toasts from friends and family of the bride and groom. There was even a fun match game! At the end of the night the couple exited out of the front entrance of the Fox under the marquis surrounded by friends and family cheering them on. It was the perfect ending to the perfect night!
