This week I want to continue our series on wedding venues with another of my favorites: The Payne Corley House. It is located in the Duluth Historic District right across the street from the train tracks that go through downtown. The train tracks, as well as many other beautiful features of the home, make this venue a wedding photographer’s dream. Not to mention it’s the perfect place for a theme of simple southern elegance for your big day.

The Payne-Corley House was a farmhouse built in the 1870s when Duluth was still known as “Howell’s Crossing”. Local figurehead Lee Payne’s youngest daughter Frances married Minor Corley and the newlyweds made their home there in the house. In 1998 a group of girlhood friends called the Dreamkeepers purchased the home from the Corley family and named it the Payne-Corley House. They were the ones who transformed the historic farmhouse to an events facility. Their mission was to maintain the home's historic charm while upgrading the house to meet the needs of a modern clientele. Once the refurbishing project was done Payne-Corley House became one the Southeast’s most celebrated event destinations. You can learn more about the fascinating history of the house on the “History” page of the venues website.

In 2004, the current owner, Krista Summerour Ganley, a daughter of one of the Dreamkeepers, purchased the Payne-Corley House. Krista also brought many years of experience as an event manager at some of the most pristine venues in Atlanta. Along with her husband Michael Ganley, a world renowned chef of gourmet cuisine, Krista launched and upgraded the property. They now have have a professional kitchen, large dining area, and outdoor area for wedding ceremonies. They also now own a florist company. They are a one stop turnkey wedding venue and can help ease your stress by fulfilling many of your wedding needs. The large front porch, gazebo, and the previously mentioned train tracks make for beautiful, unique photo opportunities you can’t get anywhere else.

While all these physical upgrades make for a beautiful venue, Payne-Corley’s staff and their event training are the real stars of the show. Krista and Mike together have over 60 years of experience in event planning. Their gracious staff make every guest feel at home and at ease. They are quick and know how to think on their feet to make their guests wildest dreams come true without any problems. I particularly remember them accommodating a wedding on one of the rare occasions when it snowed in Duluth, and it turned out beautifully. They truly are ready for anything!
