The last couple of months I have been behind on this Atlanta wedding photographer’s blog! We have been very busy and we have had some memorable weddings. This week’s blog is on Trent and Leandro’s wedding held south of Atlanta at Flat Creek Country Club.
Flat Creek Country Club is located near Newnan, Georgia. They have an expansive outdoor space next to the golf course, there are bridges and hills that make for beautiful photo locations. The outdoor ceremony area is simply breathtaking. A cobbled walkway and wisteria covered stone and pine arbor brings you to a beautiful altar overlooking a hillside with a flowing creek at the hill base. The reception space has two very open areas. One is on the lower level with a bar and an area to sit with tables or stand by hightops so you can enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. There is even a balcony on the side so you can enjoy some fresh air and look over the 18th hole. The other is the open area upstairs close to the kitchen. There you have plenty of space for dancing and dining tables. Since it is so open with no interior walls you have many options on how to layout your Atlanta wedding.
I was recommended to Trent and Leandro by their officiant Jarrett Key. They were looking for photographers and Jarrett suggested me since he saw that I did gay weddings and he liked my style of photography. We set up a group call and chatted on what they were looking for in wedding photos and coverage. After a few laughs they gave me the honor of being their Atlanta wedding photographer.
Trent and Leonardo met while doing a play in New York, starting out as coworkers and friends then falling in love. They moved together to a couple of cities up north and ended up moving in together in Atlanta. They had weathered a few storms such as new job locations, moves and COVID. They knew each other very well and finally when the time was right. They wanted to get married and have a wedding where they can share their love with all their family and friends. Let me tell you that they had some of the most thoughtful and caring friends that anyone could have.
The big day came and I got to the wedding very early so I could walk the grounds and look for photo locations. The weather could not have been better! When I got there the tables were basically set up and the grooms were getting ready with their friends. Jarrett was there with his twin brother John Key from New York getting ready with Leanrdo in a side room with a golfing game and couches so the groomsmen could enjoy snacks and drinks before the wedding. Trent was upstairs with his mom and sister getting ready in another room. About two hours before the wedding, it was time for the first look. I got Trent to go downstairs in front of the event hall and had him face the wedding ceremony area. Leonardo got the signal to come down and walk up behind him and tap him on the shoulder which was Trent’s cue to turn around. It was so nice to see them see each other for the first time in their tailored outfits. That is when I got to see them being so thoughtful to each other and I could tell they were best friends and were in love. They were so excited to get the day started! After the first look we did the family photos and a few group shots before the guests arrived. It helped a lot that they were so organized and the family and friends were so supportive.
It was time for the wedding. The guests arrived and walked down to the framed ceremony area overlooking the brook and golf course. There were guests from all over the United States from Hawaii to New Haven Connecticut. As the guests were being seated the bridal party came over from the event space from the rear so no one could see them. They lined up by the steps. Jarrett came down first since he was the officiant. Then Trent came down with his mom. Then the rest of the wedding party followed. Finally Leanrdo came down with his mom. Jarrett greeted the guests and gave some beautiful anecdotes on love and shared some funny stories on when Leandro and Trent first met. Then Al and Jocelyn Heartley, close friends of the couple shared a few entertaining and insightful stories. Then it was time for Samara Goldberg, a friend from when they worked theater together to sing a wonderful song to the guests that brought tears to a few eyes. Then Dallas Estes, a friend from when Trent was in school read a poem for the couple. My favorite part of the ceremony though were the vows Trent and Leandro read to each other. They were sincere, funny and heartfelt. After all the weddings I have gone to I admit I got a little misty too. After the vows Jerrett gleefully pronounced them as a married couple!
Then everyone headed to the lower reception area where guests were served some tasty hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and drinks. There were a lot of people catching up since they had not seen each other in a while. After about an hour or so it was time for dinner and the guests went to the upper reception area for dinner. Guests enjoyed great food and conversation throughout the meal. Then the sisters toasted their brothers while everyone was seated. Like at every wedding there was also the first dance. They were having so much fun! The mothers came out after the first dance and danced with their sons. Then as an extra twist Trent and Leandro danced with each other’s moms. Just then the music picked up and then all the guests started to dance!
I was truly honored to be a small part of their special day celebrating the love between two people. They held up supportive friends and family who would do anything for such special and loving people. Congrats Trent and Leandro
