Bridal parties come in all shapes and sizes and they can be tricky to photograph. You have to manage a number of people of all different looks and personalities and make sure they all look stellar. Well, our Atlanta wedding photographers have a few go-to poses they like to use to make sure that the entire bridal party comes through looking their best!
Bridesmaids
1) First Look

Create a fun twist on the “first look” trend by having your bride do a “first look” with her bridesmaids! While the bride is getting dressed, have the bridesmaids turn their backs or cover the eyes. Then once she’s ready have the bridesmaids take a first look and capture their reaction. This can be a super sweet moment of pure, natural friendship that the group will be glad you caught on camera!
2) Showering With Love

For this one, you can capture the bridesmaids showing their love for their best friend, the bride. Just have the bridesmaids all blow kisses to the bride or snap a pic of a group hug. Some brides even have a fun dance party with their bridesmaids while getting ready. This is one great way to get a photo where everyone looks natural, but the bridesmaids all have a little guidance of what to do with their hands and body.
3) Glamour Shot

For this one, simply have the bridesmaids stand in a line or formation around the bride and snap a full head-to-toe pic of them looking gorgeous! This pose is a pretty standard one that won’t put a lot of pressure on the girls and it will give them an opportunity to show off their gorgeous ensemble that they no doubt worked hard to get right. Top it off with a gorgeous backdrop from the venue and this is a can’t-miss photo op!.
Groomsmen
1) Showing Off Matching Accessories

Often, the groom will gift his groomsmen fun socks or matching cufflinks or ties to thank them for being there on the big day. One awesome photo op is to get all the groomsmen together and take a photo of them showing off these matching accessories. This is a great way to get a bonding shot of the guys and ensure you capture a piece of the day that represents their friendship.
2) Goofing Off

One shot that is always a favorite is a photo of the groomsmen goofing around and just hanging out. Snap a pic of the guys toasting with their drinks or cutting up with each other. You can even have them do funny poses for the camera. This is a great way to get a candid, natural, unposed shot of all the guys together on the big day. It also takes the edge off the more stiff poses and adds a bit of variety to the photos.
3) Support System

For this one, just like with the bridesmaids, have the groomsmen applaud and show love toward their best friend, the groom. You can show this support visually too, by having the groomsmen hold the groom up on their shoulders or surround him and clap their hands to applaud him. This can be a fun representation of friendship and also lends a unique way to fit everyone in the photo.
The Whole Party
1) The Friend Reversal

This is one of my favorite pose ideas. Get a photo of the bride with just the groomsmen and then the groom with just the bridesmaids. This way the bride and groom get to show the bond with each others friends! This is a really sweet pose that represents the bride and groom letting each other into their lives and also how the family and friends of each accepts the other.
2) The Tunnel

Another good option when you have the whole bridal party together is the tunnel. This is when you have the bridesmaids and groomsmen all form a tunnel with their hands or bouquets and have the bride and groom run through it towards the camera. This always makes for a fun, vibrant photo and is a great way to include the whole bridal party while making sure the couple are still the focus of the shot.
3) The Walk Forward

This pose is very simple and is maybe the one that is seen most often. Get everyone in the bridal party together and simply have them walk toward the camera. This one is great to ensure you get everyone in the party in the shot. It is also a way to get bridesmaids and groomsmen to mingle and look like they are engaging with each other while they are talking and walking together.
4) Aerial Shot
Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings
This shot is really best designed for a church or venue with a really great balcony over a wide space. Have your bridal party stand in formation while you, the photographer, go up to the high platform or balcony in the venue and shoot the bridal party from a birds-eye view. You can have them stand and smile, wave their arms cheering, or whatever looks best in the space This provides a unique, more artistic angle that shows off a great feature of the venue and can be really fun!
5) Celebration
This one is a no-brainer. Get a shot of the bridal party celebrating their friends marriage! Take a picture of the newlyweds kissing while the bridal party cheers and applauds behind them, or have the whole bridal party do a celebratory jump into the air at the same time (which is easier said than done). This type of photo is really a requirement in a wedding album and the couple will love looking at it for years to come!
