It’s well understood that not everyone is immediately comfortable in front of the camera. There is also a ton of added pressure on the newlyweds to look perfect on the big day. Our Atlanta wedding photographers recognize this and make it their mission to connect with our couples and help them feel as relaxed as possible. One thing that can make photo shoots less stressful for you and your partner is to choose a set of poses with your photographer beforehand so you know what to expect, and to keep those poses simple, natural, and casual so that nothing’s forced. In case you need inspiration, here are seven of our favorite poses for wedding day shoots!
A Simple Kiss

This one may seem like the most obvious option so it should be super easy to do. Just share a smooch with your new spouse! You can do a traditional kiss or, if you feel uncomfortable photographing that, a simple kiss on the hand, cheek, or forehead will work just as well. There are millions of ways to do this shot, including the classic kiss pose, the waist hugging pose, the bride popping her heel, and even the moment right before the kiss, so you have a lot of options do this how you want to. This is a simple but sweet gesture you will want captured in your wedding album!
Taking A Walk

Have your photographer shoot while the two of you are walking down a path or across a field and holding hands. You can also go on a little walking tour of your venue while your photographer works their magic. This is a very simple, natural photo op where you and your partner can look at each other, look at the setting, or look straight at the photographer, whatever you two are comfortable with. This is also a perfect chance for a full body shot of your fancy wedding ensembles. Throw in a killer backdrop and the right sunlight during the golden hour and these photos can be stunning!
The Dip

Have your partner dip you like they would on the dancefloor for another romantic full-body shot. You can really have some fun with this one and get some music playing during this shot to loosen up. This one can be as candid or as artsy as you want to make it and you can choose to do a kiss as you dip, or to simply look into each other’s eyes. Your photographer will need to step back for the full body shot and the two of you should be looking at each other so this pose will give you and your partner some room to breathe. It will also give you a chance to practice your moves before your first dance!
The Veil Wrap

If you’re rocking a veil on your wedding day, you can try to move your veil a few ways to enhance the photo. First, you can drape the veil over both of your heads. You can smile through the mesh or get another killer kiss picture with a bit of extra oomph. You can also choose to get a full body picture with your veil swirling behind the two of you as a sort of backdrop. For this one you can designate one of your bridesmaids, or one of your photographers, to be the veil thrower and position it correctly for this photo. This shot is actually pretty simple and the results will look beautiful and elegant!
The Loving Looks

This one is far from tricky. Just stare lovingly into your partner’s eyes so that your photographer can capture just how much you love each other. Again, you can choose to either smile or look serene. You both can even touch noses or foreheads if you want. For even more natural and authentic looks, your photographer may ask you to talk to each other while doing these shots. This is also a good opportunity for you and your partner to have a minute to each other and reflect on what the day means to you. These intimate photos always make for a sweet keepsake from your big day.
The Twirl

This is one especially for the brides who have a ballgown dress with great movement or a dress with a really long train. The bride will take the grooms hand in one of her hands, and a fistful of dress in the other hand and then have the groom twirl her around. This will not only allow the bride to show off her dress, but it will also give the two of you a chance to try out some dance moves away from the large crowd of guests. If you can do this shot, especially outside the venue during the golden hour or the blue hour, you will have a beautiful, artistic photo!
The Opposite Views

This is a pose that’s not as common but the results always speak for themselves. You and your spouse should stand facing opposite directions. This will give each of you face-to-face time with the photographer, yet will prevent either of you from stealing the entire show. It will also give each partner a break from being “on” for the camera the whole time. You can hold your partners hand or arm and rest your head on their shoulder. This can turn it into more of a sweet, candid, intimate shot and is a perfect addition to your photo album!
