I want to start this week’s post by highlighting the location of our photo shoot: Roswell, Georgia. Roswell is north of Atlanta and has a rich history, which shows through in its numerous historic properties. The town was founded by Roswell King. King moved to the area and immediately left his mark, establishing both the Roswell Manufacturing Company and a mill that would take advantage of the water power provided by the local rivers. He also built a large mansion for his family to live in and called it Barrington Hall after his son, Barrington.
This week’s blog takes place at Barrington Hall in Roswell, where I shot a recent engagement session. I met Erin and Aaron (Yes they have the same name!) at Barrington Hall early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds that sometimes gather at this popular location. On this particular morning, we were the first people there! It was cool in the morning, which made it a perfect time to shoot. There are variety of places at Barrington Hall that are perfect for photos. First you have the gardens, which have some great color and features. Then there’s the grand entrance to the stately manor where the couple can walk and goof off. The highlight in this spot has to be the magnificent columns on the building that go almost to the sky!
Once we finished at King’s former home, we went to where he built his mill. The mill ruins make for a beautiful backdrop for photos. In that area, there are interpretive panels the explain the history of the mill and the surviving ruins. There is also the dam, which is close to 50 feet tall and makes for a beautiful, powerful waterfall. Here, you can see the rock extrusions/features that scatter the base of the river below. When you walk away from the dam you come upon the remnants of the machinery of the mill where you see the boiler, waterwheel and original brick walls of the mill. There are also reconstructed outbuildings and a covered bridge at the entrance to the park. The largest feature is the walking trail that goes circles the park. This trail lets you walk through the woods and peruse the features of these historic ruins, which is a really cool experience.
The covered bridge is where I met the couples furry buddy! He was so cute!! Aaron’s sister was gracious enough to bring him over so he could hang out for a minute during the session! This adorable model was hamming it up for the camera and nailed the shot every time! He came with accessories and a great attitude, turning on that doggie charm and looking right into the camera. We were putty in his paws!
I hope you enjoy seeing these photos as much as I did taking them. As an Atlanta wedding photographer, I like sharing these great locations and wonderful pieces of history around Atlanta with you so you can take advantage of them too. I also like to brag on the great couples I get to meet and photograph. I know I am one of the luckiest photographers around!
