The Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings have been incredibly lucky to work with some amazing couples over the years. Being part of a couple takes a lot of commitment and showing appreciation for your significant other is key to a successful relationship. Almost everyone would say Valentine’s Day is the number one opportunity to do show affection for your partner and, therefore, February is the most romantic month. However, what many people don’t know is that April is actually a prime month for romance and for couples. So much so that it has become known as National Couple’s Appreciation Month!
While the origins are murky, most people agree that National Couple’s Appreciation Month came about 10 years ago when a travel company, Blissful Escapes, used the term in their marketing. They used the phrase to encourage couples to make time to be together and appreciate each other’s company. The idea caught on and since then, couples have been using the month to show their significant others how much they appreciate each other and celebrate their relationship. Even those who are single started using the occasion to show appreciation for their couple friends!
So, why choose April for this holiday? Well, for starters, it is said that April is named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Legend has it that Aphrodite was “born” in what is now the month of April. In addition, William Shakespeare, who wrote many of the greatest love poems known today, was also born in April. April also occurs in Spring, which is a time for rebirth and renewal. This means many people examine what’s important in their lives, like their relationships, and make big decisions, like committing (or recommitting) to your significant other.
There are so many ways that you and your significant other can celebrate National Couples Appreciation Month. For one thing, the birthstone for April is a diamond. That being said, you can buy your partner a gift, perhaps a promise ring or engagement/wedding ring with a diamond. You can also schedule weekly date nights throughout the month, like going to dinner or seeing a movie. If you and your partner can’t be together in person, then schedule a Skype date where you can still see each other and talk about your day. The best part is, this holiday provides a whole month for you to plan something special for the two of you!
