Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Multicultural Wedding
As an Atlanta wedding photographer, it is an honor to capture so many cultures and customs. This week I had the privilege of shooting a wedding between a bride of Christian faith and a groom of Muslim faith. They mixed ceremony details and traditions from each religion, which was truly beautiful to see. It was truly a celebration of life, culture, and the love this couple has for each other.
Not only were the bride and groom from different culture, but their families came from all over the country as well. The bride and groom came down from Colorado, and their families came from Florida to meet in Georgia for the ceremony. They were such a thoughtful couple. The bride wore a customary Pakistani wedding dress. It was an absolutely beautiful ensemble with gold trim and lots of layers. The exterior was embroidered net with stitching on the dress, or salwar, and a shawl/scarf, called a dupatta. The groom’s family bestowed the bride with lots of gold jewelry. She had a gold necklace and a maatha patti, or traditional head piece, known as a kundan or polki, that matched the earrings and bracelets. The kundan sits atop your head like a crown decked with jewels and has a centerpiece that lines up in the center of the forehead.
The groom wore a classic black tux and looked very sharp. The groomsmen wore green ties that matched the bridesmaid’s green dresses. The wedding party was lively, tasteful, and colorful. You could see the lively and fun personality of the couple throughout the day all the way to the reception, where the wedding party performed a coordinated dance at the reception after the ceremony. I could tell it took at lot of practice! It was like dancing with the stars!
The ceremony was conducted by the bride’s father, which was a lovely touch, and he did a wonderful job at bringing the two cultures together. He talked about the ingredients of all great marriages. These ingredients should include love, respect, honor and family. These are the necessities of every wedding, and every marriage, no matter who you are. The ceremony, like the couple, was a wonderful mix of wedding traditions. To represent the Muslim faith, the family did the tradition of escorting the groom to the ceremony and they did the tradition of breaking of the glass at the end of the ceremony to represent the Italian culture.
After the ceremony there was a big party. Everyone danced the night away and there was so much delicious food!!!! Since so many cultures were represented, they had a variety of all kinds of goodies. They had Indian food, Italian food, and a Pennsylvania desert table. The brides mom worked for over 2 months creating over 50 types of chocolates, cookies and sweets! Tasting the food was like a trip around the world and it was all amazing!
We all want to congratulate Amanda and Haider and we wish them the very best! Thank you to the couple for letting us capture such a beautiful and special day!
