Atlanta Wedding Photographer Captures Proposal At Ponce City Market
This week’s post is a very special one. I was contacted by Collin who was going to propose to his girlfriend Taylor. He wanted to surprise her and propose to her at Ponce City Market. As an Atlanta wedding photographer it is such an honor to photograph special moments like this.
When you are setting up a surprise proposal there is a lot of planning but at the same time you have to be flexible in the moment. We made time in the evening to plan the proposal. He said he had a reservation for 7pm at 9 Mile Station.
If you are not familiar with 9 Mile Station it is located on the top floor of Ponce City Market. It is a sleek indoor-outdoor space with sweeping unobstructed views of Atlanta. They serve craft beers and American classic foods. It is a great place to have a date and watch the sunset. I want to give a shout out to Neek Miller, the Sales & Special Events Manager at Slater Hospitality the Company that Owns 9 Mile Station and other event spaces around Ponce Ciity Market. She was a consummate professional in every sense of the word, providing insight to proposals protocols and engagement photography rules at Ponce City Market and was so supportive throughout!
The proposal was set for Tuesday afternoon at 6. Collin was going to propose to Taylor in the small park located by the Ponce City Market entrance. I arrived early and scoped out places to hide from them when he proposed. Collin was texting me his ETA. He was running a little late because of Atlanta traffic. At around 6:30 he texted me that he was parking the car and would be up soon.
I hid by the truck in the park and kept looking at the stairs from the parking deck for their arrival. It was so exciting! I spotted them as they came up the stairs. They walked to the middle of the park and started chatting. I snuck around to the side of the deck entrance and started taking pictures. Taylor did not notice me at all. Then suddenly Collin dropped down on one knee. I could see the surprise in her face. She said yes and he got up and placed the ring on Taylor’s finger. It was such a beautiful moment between two people getting ready to start a life together. I gave them a few moments and came out and said “congratulations!” Taylor turned around totally surprised that a photographer was there to capture that moment.
We chatted for a few minutes and took a few more photos by Ponce City Market. We then went to the 6th Ward Park across the street. Once done there it was time for their dinner reservation. We walked back to Ponce City Market. They both had a certain joyful glow about them. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
There are many great places to propose in Atlanta. Here are a few ideas:
There are many Atlanta Skylines to propose at and Ponce City Market is one of them, it's the perfect place to pop the question.
There is the beltway next to Ponce City Market where you get a great view of the city and neighborhood
No matter what you choose, make sure to plan your proposal carefully and make it a special moment for your partner.
Here are some tips for planning a successful proposal in Atlanta:
Choose a location that is special to you and your partner. This could be a place where you first met, where you had your first date, or where you have shared many happy memories together.
Make sure the location is well-lit and has a good view. This will make it easier for you to get down on one knee and ask your partner to marry you.
If possible, try to have a photographer or videographer present to capture the moment. This will allow you to cherish the memory of your proposal for years to come.
Most importantly, be yourself and make the proposal genuine. Your partner will appreciate the thought and effort you put into it, and it will make the moment even more special.
