If you’re like me, you can’t do anything unless you have made a plan to tackle it the best, most sensible way possible. It makes it easier to focus, and that goes for wedding planning too. If you’re overwhelmed, it helps to take it step by step, week by week, month by month. Here are some ways you can break down and prioritize the different items on your wedding to do list.

1: The Venue

The Venue is arguably one of the most important aspects of the wedding so it’s a good idea to focus on this first. It can set the theme and atmosphere of your wedding, help decide how many guests and vendors you can fit, and also likely the date and time of your wedding. Once you have this locked down you can pick appropriate vendors, send out save the dates to your guests, and think about other details.

2: The Attire

It may take you a couple stores to find the perfect look for your big day and you’ll want to leave plenty of time for the experts to make alterations too. That means it’s probably a good idea to make this a top priority and check it off early in the process. Again, once you have this decided it will help you make other decisions, like styling your bridal party to match or what patterns and colors to use in your decor, like lace and classic black and white.

3: The Vendors

Once you have your venue and attire, you’ll have an idea of the aesthetic and vibe you are going for. At this point it’s easier to choose your band/DJ based on type of music, color and type of flowers you want, type of food you want, nd all the other small details. Book a photographer who’s familiar with the venue and plan your jewelry, shoes, and hair and makeup to compliment your dress. Everything will fall into place at that point.

Of course this is just a vague idea of the planning process. You should sit down and make your own list prioritizing each element of the day. This will ensure you handle what’s really important and it will help everything fall into place. It will also help you pace yourself. Give yourself goals, like checking off one item each month. Planning can help you avoid surprises and ensure you have a day that’s exactly what you want!
