5 Poses That Will Make The Groom Look Dashing

Photography by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at AtlantaArtisticWeddings

The wedding day is one of the most important days in any persons life. In our previous blog we showcased some poses our Atlanta wedding photographers utilize to ensure the bridal solo photos are perfect. Well, this week I want to walk show off poses that are best suited for the grooms portraits. These photos are going to be mementos of a very important day so when the groom looks back on them, he will want to see a mix of sophistication and class, as well as an occasional fun and playful feeling. The poses below help to ensure the grooms are all that and more!

1) Making Adjustments

For this pose, have the groom make adjustments to his accessories. You can have him adjust his cufflinks or watch or even unbutton and rebutton his jacket. For one thing, this will help the groom know what he should do with his hands, thus eliminating a common concern people have when taking photos. The groom will also look natural and casual and not as staged. It’s a very low-pressure pose and makes for the perfect ice-breaker for the photoshoot.

2) The Lean

You can never go wrong with this classy pose. Simply have the groom lean up against an accent wall or a column, if the venue allows, and snap a photo. For an added effect, you can also have him look down or look off camera while maintaining a serious face instead of a smile. The leaning motion will keep the groom’s body relaxed and the straight expression will add a sophisticated feel, making the groom look reflective on the day ahead.

3) Holding The Jacket

Another great option for the photoshoot is to have the groom take off his jacket and hold it over his shoulder with two or three fingers of one hand. The other hand can then go inside his pocket. This is another casual, natural pose designed to keep the groom at ease. It is also a great way to show off the rest of the grooms outfit, like his tie, vest, and suspenders. These details usually have a pop of color and will look great on camera. It also gives some fun variety to the otherwise prim and proper photos.

4) The Candid Shot

For this shot, simply snap a pic of the groom laughing or clapping, or doing a fist pump. Ask him how he feels about getting married and capture his reaction. The idea is to capture him looking natural and happy, and not as stoic and posed as some of the other portraits. This will give your set of groom photos some great variety and is also an opportunity to capture all of his feelings on the day in one special photo that he can then always look back on.

5) Professional Portrait

For this pose, simply have the groom stand straight and smile while you take a head-to-toe shot, reminding him to keep his chin up, and shoulders down so that he doesn’t look tense. He can either keep his hands down at his side, cross them in front of him, put them in his pockets, or whatever he feels most comfortable with. This is a very classic, clean-cut pose that can’t go wrong. As with the bride, it is also a chance for the groom to show his whole ensemble from head to toe.
