A New Era: Modern Wedding Trends That Are Gaining Popularity
It’s not surprising that wedding trends are subject to change over time. Some traditions grow and evolve with the times while others are replaced entirely. In addition, there is no end to the variety and unique twists on these trends as every couple puts their own personality into them. Every year our Atlanta wedding photographers are introduced to new and interesting trends and 2022 trends have become all about privacy and creating intimate moments for the couple. This week I thought i’d walk you through a few of the hottest new trends we’ve seen in 2020!
Private Vows

This is a trend that has been around for a minute but has become increasingly popular recently. Many couples prefer their vows be kept private nowadays, and feel that it should be a moment just between the two of them. In order to do this, some couples exchange letters before the ceremony and then recite the traditional templated vows during the ceremony. They may have their best man or maid of honor deliver them or they may do it in person during their first look. Another option for couples who want private vows is to turn their microphones off while they recite their vows or set up a curtain or partition to go up at this point during the ceremony.
The Social Media Minute

This is a new trend that has come about this year that most people don’t know about. More and more couples are instituting unplugged ceremonies where they ask guests to not use their phones in order to stay present in the moment on the big day,. For this trend, after the couple is pronounced married and they share their first kiss, the officiant will announce that guests can take out their phones for one minute and take pictures. Once the minute is over, guests are required to put their phones away again. This trend is very handy in that the couple keeps their guests present and off their phones during important moments and the guests still get to capture their own moments with the newlyweds.
Reverse Order Entrance

I find this tradition really fun and there’s a really interesting thought behind it. When the wedding party enters the reception, they’ll come up with something fun and creative to do while they enter, whether it’s a dance routine or pantomime or something else. The bride and groom are traditionally the last to enter so they don’t get to see the fun things their friends and family come up with and it leaves them out of a fun moment in the night. If the order is reversed and the couple enters the reception hall first, they will get to see their bridal party ham it up. The reverse order entrance is the perfect way for the bride and groom to be fully immersed in their wedding reception from the very beginning.
The Last Dance

This is another new trend that many may not know about and it is another opportunity for the couple to grab a moment to themselves on their big day. Of course, the couple has their traditional first dance as husband and wife in front of their guests at their reception. During this trend, the couple grabs another dance together. While the guests are filing out of the reception venue to get ready for the exit, the couple will have the DJ play music and will share another dance, this time in the empty reception hall, just the two of them. This is a really sweet trend that can lead to some amazing photos too, if the couple chooses to let the photographer capture it.
