Amanda and Robert are this week’s couple. They are two police officers who fell in love. They both have a deep appreciation of history, service to their community and devotion to each other. They are such a wonderful couple!

While doing so many weddings I have seen couples with the same occupation marry each other, wether it be archaeologists who travel a lot, EMTs that deal with traumatic accidents, or doctors who have long hours and many hours of school. It seems like these couples understand the sacrifices of their occupation. They know that it is their passion in life and they have a calling to do what they do. I can see that in people in law enforcement too.

The wedding day started in Fayetteville, Georgia, where Robert the groom is from, at the Historic Train depot. The depot is nestled in the heart of downtown Fayetteville. It was built in 1902 and hosted the town’s social life in the early years. It has now been restored into a wonderful historic event center. For their wedding day, Amanda and Robert used toy trains as center pieces on their tables. It was a small ceremony just for family and a few friends. Before everyone got there they did a quick first look, and enjoyed a little time that they could call their own. It was a very casual wedding and the couple met the guests as they arrived. They also had family friends make the wedding cake and the groom’s uncle the uncle officiated the wedding. It was truly a family affair

The reception was held at the back patio of the Bluetop restaurant. Fun fact: Bluetop gets its name from the Bluetop Taxi, which used to run in Chamblee early last century. It had one taxi driver, “Shorty”, who was also know as the town drunk! Andy the owner of the Bluettop restaurant converted the dispatch center into a Restaurant and Bar serving American Fast-Casual food a few years ago. He found a 1945 Global Van Line van for 500 dollars and decided to convert it to his kitchen. The rest of the restaurant is designed to make you feel at home, with bonfires in the winter and maybe a game of bocce ball or corn hole in the summer with friends.

At the end of the day it was a beautiful wedding filled with family and friends who celebrated the union of two people in love. It was a unique wedding rich in history, community, and family just like Amanda and Robert.
