In Loving Memory: How To Honor Departed Loved Ones At Your Wedding
The Atlanta wedding photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings know that it’s tough when a loved one is unable to be at your wedding. It is even harder when that loved one has passed away before the big day. However, they can still be with you in spirit and you can do a variety of things to keep them close to you when you get married. This week, as we celebrate Veterans Day, I wanted to share with you some of the ways you can honor departed loved ones during your wedding
Many people choose to incorporate remembrances of loved ones into their clothing and accessories on the day. Your bouquet or boutonniere could be made from their favorite flowers, or you can have a photo, piece of jewelry, or other personal item of theirs attached to the flowers. Another option is to incorporate a piece of the loved one’s clothing into your own wedding attire. You can wear a favorite piece of the loved one, such as an old tie or hairpiece, or sew a square of their clothing, possibly their old wedding clothes, inside your own wedding attire to keep them close to your heart.
Photographs of your departed loved one can be very meaningful in a variety of ways during your wedding ceremony. You can place these on important tables throughout the wedding venue, such as the table where you sign the marriage certificate or where guests sign the guest book, which can help you feel as if they are still a part of special moments throughout the day. There can even be a display of multiple photos with departed loved ones, especially their wedding photos, that could serve as a look back on your ancestors as you start a new chapter of life.
You can also reserve a seat for these loved ones at the wedding and place their picture in the chair. A candle can also be used for this purpose. However, one of the most popular gestures regarding candles is to light a candle in remembrance of departed family members during the ceremony and place it in a spot of significance. Your program for the wedding ceremony can also include a special note honoring them.
Another sweet way to pay tribute would be to include your favorite memories of that person, or their favorite sayings, in your wedding vows and in any speeches at the reception. The food and wine you serve at the reception can include a special menu with favorites of those departed family members. Other popular ways to remember these loved ones may be to dance to their favorite songs or play their favorite games during the reception. However you choose to pay homage, all of these ideas can help you feel close to your departed loved ones and pay tribute to them on the day.
