Historic Hotels Shot by the Atlanta Wedding Photographers at Atlanta Artistic Weddings
If you have been following my blog, you know I am a Atlanta wedding photographer that LOVES historic landmarks. I am blessed to live in a city with so many historic landmarks and some of my favorites are historic hotels. If you shoot weddings you inevitably shoot at hotels and I have been blessed to be able to shoot at some of the most iconic historic hotels in the United States.
The Biltmore chain of hotels were built in the 1930s all across America, and they have many hotels across the country. The two I got to shoot at were located in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Both are very opulent with huge ballrooms and architectural details you don’t see in buildings today. They spared no expense when they built these masterpieces. These buildings were built in a time when public events were extravagant and meant to make a statement. The Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles was built in 1923 and is located in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. Fun fact: this hotel was the host of the very first Oscar Awards. The Biltmore in Atlanta is no longer a hotel, but they do have restored ballrooms which are hosted by the Novare Events. Like the ballrooms in the other Biltmores, it is decorated with a high celling and beautiful fresco paintings.
I have also been honored to shoot at one of my favorite hotels, the Peabody Hotel in Memphis Tennessee. It is the grandest hotel in the heart of Memphis and is located one street over from Beale Street. It is know as the ‘South’s Grand Hotel” because of it’s charm, elegance, and gracious hospitality. It is the oldest hotel in this blog and was built in 1869. The most famous residents of the hotel are the 5 ducks that march daily through the lobby in the morning and afternoon. Like all the grand ballrooms at the Peabody have tall columns and high cellings. The wedding I shot here was one of the highlights of my career. Not only did I get to photograph a beautiful wedding at one of my favorite hotels, but I got to bring my son. We went to Graceland and took a wonderful trip to the heartland of American music.
Another awesome hotel that I have shot at many of times is the Georgian Terrace Hotel right across the street from the Fabulous Fox Theater, which is covered in a previous blog . The Georgian Terrace was built in 1911 and it was built with 3 ballrooms. Most of the weddings I have shot here have been in the Grand Ballroom. This room has the classic crown molding of European architecture with a high celling and tall columns that break up the room. The Mitchel Ballroom is off of the Livingston Restaurant. It holds about 120 guests and is located at the corner of Peachtree Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue. It has this corner nook that makes for great photos! There is also the Piedmont Ballroom that holds up to 200 guests and is located by parking entrance. This ballroom is almost a mirror of the Grand Ballroom, but has a tile floor and a more open feel. The hotel is a historic landmark on the United States Park Service National Register of Historic Places. It was the home of the premier of “Gone with the Wind”, which was shown at the Fox Theater across the street.
Once again, I have shared my love of historic architecture throughout these blogs and in my photos, which can be seen at Library of Congress. It is a passion that I have been blessed to be able to pursue, due to both my career at different historic preservation companies and my photography at Atlanta Artistic Weddings.
Thank you so much for visiting this Atlanta wedding photographer’s blog. I hope that you have enjoyed the read and keep coming back every week to see what we have been up to. Please feel free to drop me a line at my contact page. I would love to hear from you!
